Mike Flynn wants immunity — and he should get it

Mike Flynn, who resigned his national security adviser post for President Donald Trump under a cloud of suspicion about his talks with Russia’s ambassador to the United States, wants to tell his story to Congress, but wants immunity first.

Give it. He should have it. He has information that’s pertinent to America but the political atmosphere is so toxic now he’d be crazy — anybody would be crazy — to present it without first getting a guarantee that he’s not going to be bitten by the hands he’s feeding.

“Gen. Flynn certainly has a story to tell and he very much wants to tell it, should the circumstances permit,” said Flynn’s lawyer, Robert Kelner, in a statement late Thursday. “No reasonable person who has the benefit of advice from counsel, would submit to questioning in such a highly politicized, witch-hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution.”

The Democrats are trying to make a whole thing out of Flynn’s comment of last year that “when you are given immunity, that means you probably committed a crime.” And rightly so — if the tables were turned, Republicans would be making the same waves, using that comment to score political points and suggest Flynn’s current request for immunity holds deeper meaning.

But that’s a side show — a distraction. Fact is, a year ago, Democrats still had Barack Obama in office and hadn’t yet exposed themselves to be the complete and utter Party of Anti they’ve now become: Anti-Trump, anti-rule of law, anti-peaceful protests, and so forth and so on.

It’s only after Trump came to power that the left has gone completely bonkers.

That’s not to say we on the right haven’t known for years the Democrats weren’t capable of reason and reach-out to the Republicans. But it is to say that even conservatives have been taken a bit off balance by the complete viciousness of the left of late — the total and concerted try at take-down of this president and this White House.

Rep. Maxine Waters won’t rest until she sees Trump impeached.

The progressives on college campuses and on city streets won’t stop burning and smashing until Trump is gone.

The Chuck Schumers of the Senate and Chris Cuomos of CNN won’t rest easy until Trump and his Cabinet members are weakened and destroyed.

The Barack Obama and Michael Moore ilk of the nation won’t quit and go home until Trump is proven a criminal, handcuffed and jailed — he and his little dog Toto, too.

You see where I’m going with this?

The atmosphere is one of chaos — and on that count, the left is only clamoring for more.

So why would Flynn go into this pit with a smile on his face, armed even as he might be with the belt of truth?

No, he needs more. He needs a guarantee that he won’t be needlessly, wrongfully and politically vilified. He needs to have it in writing that the left, no matter how hard it tries, can’t serve his head on a platter for the sake of serving a Republican Tied to Trump on a platter.

As Trump tweeted Friday: “Mike Flynn should ask for immunity in that this is a witch hunt (excuse for big election loss), by media & Dems, of historic proportion!”

Quite right. Give Flynn the immunity — let’s move on from this Democratic fueled allegation that Russia won the election for Trump.
