‘Terminate the Environmental Protection Agency’ Bill Moves in Congress

A bill, H.R. 861, to terminate the Environmental Protection Agency, was introduced into the House earlier this month by Republican (of course) Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz.

Will it pass? Doubtful.

But in the name of wishful thinking …

A bill to terminate the Environmental Protection Agency was introduced into Congress.

The text of the bill isn’t yet available.

But so far, it’s been introduced into the House, and then bounced around to several different committees: Energy and Commerce, Agriculture, Transportation and Infrastructure, and to Science, Space and Technology. Why?

“For a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned,” the summary section of the bill states.

In other words: ‘Cause EPA has a large footprint, and is involved in pretty much all facets of government. So all these facets of government have to consider the impacts and repercussions of cutting the agency.

Reps. Thomas Massie, from Kentucky, Steven Palazzo, from Mississippi, and Barry Loudermilk, from Georgia — all Republicans — have consponsored.
