Kim Burrell, Gospel Singer, Under Fire for Bible-Based Views of Homosexuality

Kim Burrell of gospel singing and Kim Burrell Ministries fame, has come under fire for preaching the biblical-based view of homosexuality to her church – that it’s contrary to the nature and will of God.

“Anybody in this room who feels the homosexual spirit, beg God to free you,” she said, the Blaze reported. “I came to tell you about sin. That sin nature. That perverted homosexual spirit and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived men and women and it’s caused a stain on the body of Christ.”

Those remarks were part of a larger message she preached, and were largely taken out of context and posted as a clip on YouTube under the title: “Kim Burrell bashes homosexuals; implies they will die in 2017.”

The video received hundreds of thousands of views.

Burrell, it should be noted, did not condemn homosexuals, but only the act – just as the Bible does.

But she was vilified on social media just the same.

As the Blaze noted, one Twitter poster wrote: “Hoping folks like @KimBurrellLove & others like her finally realize that #LoveIsLove. LoveIsLove LoveIsLove LoveIsLove LoveIsLove LoveIsLove.”

And another, speaking of Ellen DeGeneres, the television host who announced she was gay in 1997 and performed a marriage ceremony with her female partner in 2008, tweeted: “@KimBurrellLove @TheEllenShow Do you consider Ellen to have that ‘perverted homosexual spirit’ you speak of?”

Well here’s a thought on that latter: Yes.

The Bible makes clear homosexuality is a sin, contrary to the nature of God, rooted in the lies of Satan. And just because the Bible also makes clear that homosexuals, like all sinners – of which we all are – are equally loved by God, equally offered His grace and salvation, that doesn’t make moot the point that homosexuality is a sin.

It’s like this: Stealing is a sin, right? So is lying. So is adultery. So is murder. But Jesus died on the cross so that those guilty of these sins may be saved and forgiven. At the same time, the fact that Jesus died for all our sins doesn’t change the definition of sin. It doesn’t make sin not sin.

So homosexuality as a sin is akin to lying as a sin is akin to murder as a sin is akin to adultery as a sin … and so on. Plain as day, right?

Condemning Burrell for stating homosexuality as a sin is about as nonsensical as condemning someone for saying stealing is a sin.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Actually, it’s not. It’s just that there’s a political agenda that’s being played – a cultural battle that’s being waged. And it’s called the LBGTQ movement. Its aims? To completely uproot biblical teachings in order to make wrong right – to completely redefine family to make abnormal normal.

Now Burrell’s on the defense – and she shouldn’t be.

She uploaded a video to Facebook responding to all the criticism. And in it, she made clear she never condemned gay people, but rather loved them and because of that love, felt compelled to offer the truth about Jesus Christ and His grace and salvation.

Among her remarks:

“I have to do what God tells me to do. … I’m not to be shaken cause I’m out here for God…to every person that is dealing with the homosexual spirit, that has it, I love you cause God loves you, but he hates the sin in you and me, anything that’s against the nature of God…

“There are a lot of people that I’m aware of that struggle, or deal, or have that spirit. Have I discriminated against them? Have I ever outright told them ‘I don’t love you’ and ‘you going to hell?’ Who gives me the right to say that I’m telling someone that they’re going to hell. I don’t get that call. There’s a responsibility in the church to represent the almighty God, and it is wrong for us to gather, that as we rep God, that we take his place. Don’t think that. I’m not that shallow.

“I never said that all gays are going to hell. … I was addressing church people, and let’s get even more specific–ones who were in my church. My church where I pastor. … I never said God was killing a gay in 2017. I said people who operate with that spirit in the church, with deception, and attack themselves are going to have to face the master. That’s what I said, and that death is attached to their behavior.”

She’s right. Those who say otherwise are wrong. How is that fact?

It’s in the Bible.

Burrell, interestingly, is supposed to perform with singer Pharrell on Ellen DeGeneres’ television show this week.
